Circus With Purpose

traveling nicaragua

Community of creation

A passion for a small community struggling turned into a world wide project of art and magic through individuals that realized a dream.

Into the jungle we went…

We traveled as a group from Magnific Rock in Popoyo to El Remate.

The drive was relatively short but as we drove further into the jungle and away from the beach, there were a few things I noticed. One main thing was that a handful of workers were building an entire road by hand- block by block to make travel easier for those traversing into the more rural communities. The crazy part was that after a week they had made so much progress to where it was incredibly noticeable that the road now stretched for miles. I cannot explain the respect I have for these people and their dedication to bettering their homes and country.

As we passed these workers the jungle became more dense and the road, well, disappeared and became small rivers we had to drive through carefully. The remote village of El Remate is inaccessible during rainy season (May – October) which means that the families living in this village are completely self sufficient with their own farms, water sources, and school. As we neared the edge of the village, we were dropped off and picked up by Oxen carts which took us to a local family’s home led by a founder of the project, Harold. The sweetest man in my opinion with a love for his community that drives him daily.

and ended up in a gorgeous open field where the sun hid behind a perfectly placed hill. This was a sacred and magical space where children of all ages practiced their circus acts for the big performance, played together as a community, and spent time amongst Nature. The women and men who attend the “Circus with Purpose” retreat in Popoyo come here on a type of field trip to help the children perfect their skills, share language skills, and play as a team.

Some helping hands…

When like minded humans come together to create with their whole hearts, something beautiful happens.

It inspires young minds to think outside of the reality they are faced with. It allows them to grow as powerful human beings and members of their own communities. It brings new education and ideas to a world where some may never have thought possible. This project is one I never heard of until I visited Nicaragua and stayed to see this circus performance in person.

If you have a love for dance, movement, or anything similar- it is definitely worth checking out. All proceeds from the final performance go to the children’s education and communities to better their lives and futures.
